2011 update: Harvey & Sonar are excited to announce the addition of a new family member, Justice Kitteh. Justice is a female medium/longhair black cat who was rescued from the streets. www.3kittehs.com coming soon!
a breef hissstory:
2kittehs.com is the 6th and newest website of our blogging empire. Two new kitties have joined the family: Edison and Tesla. “Eddie” and “Tessie” (both males) belong to new hoomin roommates Eden & Aspen, who adopted the two kitties when they were about 1-2 months old.
Initially, the two sets of cats (Harvey+Sonar and Edison+Tesla) had to be kept in separate rooms. For several weeks, they were only able to hear, smell and even feel (swat at) each other under the door that separated their two rooms. The “hoominz” would occasionally allow them all to get together during closely-monitored play times, which usually consisted of hissing, growling and swatting. This behavior is normal when new cats are introduced into a household (Sonar wasn’t very happy when Harvey+Stinky moved in a long time ago). In the long run, cats usually get accustomed to each other. In this case, our main concern was safety: Harvey & Sonar were at least 2-3 times BIGGER than Edison & Tesla, who were kittens of only a few months of age. Although H&S are pretty good-natured, if put under stress they could easily hurt tiny E&T. So the door separation had to continue for a few months. Eventually, the cats adjusted and were able to stay relaxed in each other’s presence. They’re now allowed to have free access to each other and to all rooms (except during feeding times since Edison & Tesla have strict/special diets).
The original blog, WaifySonar.net, was co-authored by Waify and Sonar. Sadly, cancer took Waify in April 2006. We decided to leave waifysonar.net as is to remember Waify. Despite a rough start to her life, she was a special kitty with a very gentle soul. She is one of the sweetest, gentlest creatures i’ve ever met.
Within a few days of Waify’s passing, Sonar was unexpectedly joined by two other kitties, Harvey & Stinky. This gave rise to our 2nd blog, HarveyStinkySonar.com. Harvey & Stinky had previously lived with me (a.k.a. Dad) for a year before moving away with their former owner Josh (who eventually abandoned them). Harvey & Stinky were already familiar with me, but they were completely foreign to Sonar. After many weeks of cautious introductions and gradual acclimation, the three kitties finally began to get along quite nicely. Sadly, Stinky suddenly became very ill in July 2007 and passed away from FIP. We will never get accustomed to the pain of losing a little one.
After many months, we gathered ourselves and regrouped. With Stinky & Waify in our minds & hearts, we made a push to move forward.
In the 3rd website, HarveySonar.com, Harvey & Sonar continued providing wisdom and joy to hoomins and felines everywhere.
For a few months in early 2008, the duo began blogging to a 4th experimental website, SonarHarvey.com . . . but Sonar borked it, so they eventually returned to HarveySonar.com.
In November 2008, our 5th website 4kittehs.com made room for our 2 additional kittehs, Edison & Tesla.
With their newest website, 2kittehs.com, Harvey and Sonar carry on their never-ending quest for adventure… and food.
Mainly food.

HARVEY
Harvey and his little brother Stinky were rescued from Hurricane Katrina in late 2005 by Hopalong Animal Rescue. My former roommates, Josh and Sarah, hit the lottery-of-life and were fortunate enough to adopt both kitties from Hopalong’s mobile pet adoption site on Telegraph Ave in Berkeley. Upon adoption, Josh & Sarah renamed Pumpkin and Spidey to Napoleon and Harvey, respectively. The four of them lived together with me for about a year. To say the least, I had grown very fond of both kitties during this time. In 2006-2007, Harvey and Stinky moved away with Josh to homes in Fremont and San Jose. Due to incompatibilities in living arrangements, I was asked in April 2007 to foster them. I had just lost my baby, Waify, on April 11… and I was still recovering from her sudden departure. Nevertheless, I recognized that Harvey & Stinky’s circumstance left no spare time to waste, so I agreed immediately and wholeheartedly to foster them! I had missed them so much! Soon, I was reunited with Harvey & Stinky! Surprisingly, they remembered me. There was very little re-adjustment needed; it seemed like they had been living with me all these years. And I was relieved to discover that they LOVED my new home!
Unfortunately, Stinky did not make it. He passed away in July 2007. After a week-long battle with illness, I put Stinky into his carrier and walked out the door to take him to the vet hospital. Harvey witnessed our departure. But because Stinky never came back, Harvey continued to believe that Stinky was outside. For months, Harvey would stare and paw at the front door while meowing loudly at it as if Stinky were on the other side. It was a heartbreaking sight. Unbelievably, Harvey’s former owner reneged on providing financial assistance and eventually abandoned him completely. But I gladly took responsibility for Harvey and look forward to being Harvey’s hooman from now on.

SONAR
Sonar was a tiny little kitten–only a few weeks old–when someone found him at a shipyard in the Port of Oakland, CA. He had a gash in his head and was slightly malnourished. After Hopalong Animal Rescue got him stitched up and nursed him back to health, volunteer Liz D fostered him until he reached 16 weeks of age (the minimum for adoption). On his very first showing at Hopalong’s mobile adoption site, he was snatched up by… me (a.k.a. Dad). Sonar melted my heart with his big green eyes and little pink nose. He was very energetic and inquisitive… yet still very gentle. And, most importantly, he was so little!!! (To this day, I’m still constantly reminding him that he’s TOO LITTLE!) At the mobile adoption site, I detected some serious competition from other potential adopters. Within only a few minutes of arriving and being displayed to the public, he immediately won the hearts of everyone present. But at that time, I had already been speaking with a Hopalong volunteer about adopting another cat that was also there that day, Waify. After asking if I could adopt Sonar as well, we decided to put Waify and Sonar into the same cage to see if they would get along. They did! And the rest is history. Today, although Sonar has grown up and weighs about 11 pounds, he still has a babyface. Sonar’s vocal talents are demonstrated in his purring video on YouTube.
